Minecraft Piston Mod | Pistons, Traps and Lava Bridges

Mod: Add Working Pistons to Minecraft

An exciting new mod, the Minecraft piston mod adds moving, working pistons to the game. They’re not Steampunk pretty (yet) but they work. How do they work? Well pretty much as one might expect them to. They lift and push using the power of steam, or in the case of Minecraft, redstone. Especially useful is the fact that pistons operate on both the horizontal and vertical planes. They can also act as launchers. If you place a block like sand above the piston, it will be hurled into the air when the piston is activated. Fun and games for all the family!

The piston mod makes it possible to create bridges, and potentially even mob traps. When combined with lava, this is an especially dangerous device, though it should be acknowledged that it is possibly more dangerous to the creator during construction than to anything else at any other time. Imagine a series of these connected to one another. When triggered, perhaps by a pressure plate they suddenly push burning lava up through what previously looked like nothing more than a peaceful green field or refined corridor. Possible defensive applications in PvP are worth considering, though it is doubtful that this mod will work in SMP, where it could be very useful indeed.

This is an important mod for many reasons. For a long time, people have been looking for action blocks, and aside from levers and buttons there haven’t really been any. Imagine the additional possibilities if other moving blocks, like pulleys and gears were integrated into the game. Moving platforms, elevators and automated cities would be within our blocky little grasps.

There are a multitude of possible applications for a mechanical addition like this, one such example is a lava bridge, built to demonstrate the excellence of the mod. That’s right, flaming blocks of sand launched into the air leaving behind only molten lava. How’s that for a home protection system you can believe in?

How To Install Minecraft Piston Mod

Installation is simple, if you’re already using Mod Loader v5, you can simply drop the .class files into your Minecraft .jar. If you’re not using Mod Loader v5, install it. If you’re sticking to Mod Loader v4 out of an anachronistic sense of loyalty, then you have a decision to make. Upgrade and unlock the power of pistons, or cling to an increasingly distant past?

Download Minecraft Pistons

Glitch Notes:

I have been testing this mod and I note that if you place a vertical piston, then put a glass block on top of it and attempt to activate it, it will transform the vertical piston into a horizontal piston and push through solid blocks.

Texture Mod: Use a Transparent Texture Pack to Find Hidden Treasures

This texture hack makes the Minecraft ground transparent so that you can see through them. This makes it easier find dungeons, cave systems, minerals, or even hidden chests. This even works online on SMP servers. This cheat works with all version of Minecraft, including 1.4_01. To use this cheat download X-Ray.

Then follow this tutorial:

    Open up Minecraft and login
Click on “Mods and Textures Packs”
    Select “Open Texture Pack Folder”
Move the X-Ray.zip folder into your Texture Pack folder

Mod: Edit Your Inventory in Game with TooManyItems

This mod is a lot like Invedit or Invgrid, except it is in game. This means that you can spawn items or edit your inventory without closing out of Minecraft. This works on the newest version of Minecraft, 1.4. To install this mod, first download the required files TooManyItems. Once you have downloaded the files, install this mod like you would any other. If you don’t know how to do this, follow these easy steps:

Find your minecraft.jar file. On Windows, this can be found by going to %APPDATA%/.minecraft/bin.
    Backup your minecraft.jar
Open minecraft.jar in a program such as WinRar or 7-Zip
Move the files from the download into your minecraft.jar file
    Close minecraft.jar, and run Minecraft

Once you’ve installed the mod, use these tips:

When your inventory screen is open, left-click on the items on the right to add a full stack, or right-click to add 1 at a time. To turn TMI on or off, press “O”. Your preferences will be saved for both single player and multiplayer.Craft Fast: Right-click on the output square when crafting to craft the maximum possible amount.

Fast transfer: Hold shift while placing an item into a chest, or into your inventory from a chest, to transfer all items of the same type and combine stacks. (Works while the inventory overlay is disabled).

Troubleshooting: If something goes wrong, try these steps:

1. Make sure that you have deleted META-INF from Minecraft. This must be done everything the game updates.
2. TMI may be incompatible with other mods. Does any other mod include the same game class file? (gp.class as of 1.4)
3. Two other mods may be incompatible. Nothing can be done about this.
4. One or more mods may be for the wrong version of Minecraft.

Update: Sorry, I accidentally posted the wrong version for 1.4. I have updated the download link. Sorry for the inconvenience.

Remember, it’s a good idea to backup your original Minecraft.jar file in case something goes wrong or you’d like to start fresh.

Mod: Get a Minecraft Friend with the Charlotte Female Companion Mod

This fun mod adds make single player less “single-player-ish” by adding a female companion to Minecraft. Charlotte has a plethora of features including:

Follows you everywhere
Attacks enemies
Can pick up and use items or stacks of items
Has the ability to heal you
Can be healed
Enhanced fighting skills and range
Ability to ride in vehicles along side player
Lots of different vocal event cues
Can now ride on the player’s shoulders
Also will dismount the player if damage is taken from a null source (ceilings, etc)
Charlotte will stand still if she holds a flower
Bugs involving tight passages and doorways have probably been fixed
Charlotte follows the player much more closely now
Pathfinding has been greatly improved
Riding bugged mounts is possible if Charlotte rides on your shoulders
Duping glitches have probaby been fixed
If Brain Slimes are installed, Charlotte will not attack tiny ones
Duped Charlottes do not attack each other anymore (but are less likely to happen anyway)

This mod is a bit more complicated to install then the last few on this site. You’ll first need to download Risugami’s Mod Loader (if you don’t already have it installed), the Audio Mod, 303′s spawnlist API and the Charlotte Female Companion Mod.

The instructions for installing all of these can be found in the Charlotte V4 beta zip folder.

Remember, if Charlotte dies, or you die, and you really, really want her back, you’ll need to go into your world save folder and delete the “charlotte” file. this will allow an additional Charlotte to spawn.

Charlotte follows the player loosely, but if you continuously jump while walking, she will keep closer to you and be less likely to wander.

Have fun with mod! It’s a bit buggy, but I’ll update this post once a new version is released.
